Fees and Funding


The participation costs consist of a non-refundable program fee, as well as the enrollment fee.
The program fee amounting to 160,- Euros is levied at a flat-rate. It covers the administrative tasks associated with the enrollment process and internship management. The regular program fee for online internships amounts to 60,- Euros. At the beginning of your internship, you need to make a one-time payment to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for the enrollment (approx. 200 €). The payment must be made in cash at the office of the program coordinator. It covers the semester contribution and includes a public transportation ticket (Berlin zones ABC).

Moreover, the following costs should be anticipated:
  • Visa costs (depending on the student's nationality)
  • Airline ticket (Round-Trip)
  • Health Insurance (approx. 50 - 80 €/month)
  • Accommodation (approx. 600 €/month)
  • Miscellaneous Costs (food, phone, internet, activities; approx. 300 - 500 €/month)

Scholarships for attending Humboldt Internship Program are not awarded by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, but by external funding organizations. The following institutions may give you information about scholarship opportunities:
  • Your home university
  • Organizations cooperating with Germany
  • Scholarship databases of your country's Ministry of Education and other governmental institutions

Please also visit the homepage of DAAD to learn about various kinds of DAAD funding for international students. The DAAD Scholarship Database provides information on funding offered by other selected organizations. In addition to that, it can be helpful to contact the branch offices of DAAD in your country of residence.

Students of Humboldt Internship Program partner universities can apply for scholarships awarded by Santander Consumer Bank: Aarhus University, King’s College London, National University of Singapore, University of California Davis, University of Ottawa, University of Toronto.

Payment methods

Please note that the program fee must be paid in one installment and no later than three weeks after confirmation of your internship placement. Registration becomes valid only after verification of payment. The transfer charge must be paid by the applicant. The enrollment fees must be paid in cash on the first day of the internship. If you have questions concerning your payment, you are welcome to contact the program coordinator via email.
With confirmation of payment, your registration for Humboldt Internship Program is binding.
