Project Content
Neurorium develops technology that facilitates using Biological Neural Networks (BNNs) for computational tasks. BNNs are made up of living, interconnected neurons that communicate with a digital substrate through electrical signals. Our training modules and software stack provide a hybrid computational platform, with applications in adaptive, few-shot learning, and physical AI.

Tasks for Interns
The intern will support the commercial development of an early-stage biocomputing start-up working at the intersection of scientific research, technology, and entrepreneurship. The position will focus on understanding relevant markets, identifying high-potential application areas and customer segments, and translating market insights into actionable business-development priorities.

Expected activities may include market and industry research; analysis of customer segments, competitors, emerging technologies, and market trends; identification and assessment of potential customers, collaborators, and commercial opportunities; support for customer discovery and stakeholder interviews; preparation of market maps, competitive landscapes, and business-development materials; and development of recommendations for market entry and go-to-market activities.

Depending on the intern's background and interests, the project may also involve researching selected application areas in biotechnology, industries relevant to biocomputing, life sciences, or other research institutions and R&D organizations. Depending on the intern's background and interests, the project may also involve researching selected application areas in biotechnology, life sciences, research institutions and R&D organizations, or other industries relevant to biocomputing. A central part of the role will be developing a strong understanding of our underlying biocomputing technology—its principles, capabilities, limitations, and potential areas of application—in order to identify where it can create distinctive value across different markets. This technological understanding will be essential for meaningful market analysis, customer discovery, business development, and the identification of new commercial opportunities in an emerging field where market creation is an important part of the challenge. Concrete priorities and day-to-day tasks will be agreed with the selected intern closer to the internship period.

Requirements
Technology-focused business development: understanding the capabilities, limitations, and application potential of an emerging biocomputing technology in order to support market analysis, customer discovery, strategic partnerships, and commercialization. The role does not primarily involve engineering or technical development.

We are looking for a curious, analytical, and entrepreneurial student who enjoys exploring emerging technologies and understanding how scientific innovation can be translated into real-world applications and sustainable businesses. The ideal candidate should be motivated to engage deeply with an emerging biocomputing technology and able to translate technical understanding into commercial insight. A willingness to learn how the technology works, what makes it distinctive, where its current boundaries lie, and how it could address needs across different industries is essential.

A background and strong interest in economics, business, entrepreneurship, innovation management, life sciences, biotechnology, computational sciences, or another relevant discipline is welcome. Previous experience with market research, competitive analysis, consulting, business development, or start-up projects is advantageous.

The ideal candidate should be able to research unfamiliar topics independently, synthesize information from multiple sources, identify meaningful patterns and opportunities, and communicate findings clearly. Strong written and verbal English skills are important. We particularly value initiative, structured thinking, intellectual curiosity, reliability, adaptability, and comfort working in the dynamic and evolving environment of an early-stage start-up.
