Recognition of your participation in the Lifelong Learning course(s)

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is one of Germany’s leading universities, known for its strong focus on research and high-quality teaching. Founded in 1810, it helped shape what is now known as the Humboldtian model of higher education, built on the idea that research and teaching belong together, and that academic freedom is essential. Our Lifelong Learning online courses are based on these ideas and adapted to today’s world. Certificates provide documented proof of specialized and general skills acquired beyond your degree, highlighting a commitment to quality.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a Certificate of Participation issued by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. This certificate serves as formal documentation of participation and achievement and may be included in academic or professional contexts, such as applications or profiles on online platforms. The certificate specifies the course details, the total number of teaching hours completed, and the general workload of the course.

Transcripts

Depending on the course, participants may receive two separate documents upon successful completion:

  • a Certificate of Participation
  • a Transcript of Records indicating awarded ECTS credits (only for university students).

Assessment and assignment requirements may differ between courses and participant groups. Participants who do not require ECTS credits may, in some cases, choose to attend the course without submitting assignments. However, some courses require mandatory assessments for all participants regardless of status. The details are specified in the respective course description.

Credits

All courses are accredited according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). ECTS has been developed by the Commission of the European Union to provide common procedures to guarantee academic recognition of studies abroad.

ECTS is a credit system based on the course participants’ workload. One credit point is deemed to be the equivalent of 25-30 working hours, including preparation, attendance, and assignments. Regular attendance is required (minimum 80% presence at the courses). The number of ECTS credits to be acquired, and the forms of assessment vary from course to course, therefore please see the course description.
