Project Content
The project explores microtypological studies in Ghana-Togo Mountain languages, an areal and genealogical unity within the Kwa linguistic family. The microtypological approach allows for reporting and summarizing minor structural differences in the language group, with a further explanation through the background of global linguistic typology.
While the research project focuses on wordhood in Ghana-Togo Mountain languages, the internship allows for a broader perspective of a microtypological study: any related grammatical topic can be chosen. An international intern will participate actively in research on a specific topic, gaining the experience of supervised microtypological work based on available data. Simultaneously, they will get a solid methodological background both in primary linguistic data collection and analysis and in global linguistic typology.
Tasks for Interns
The main task for the intern will consist of doing comparative research on a chosen topic in the Ghana-Togo Mountain languages, namely:
  • collecting and summarizing data on specific languages,
  • generalizing over data and analysis in a global typological perspective.
Possible topics may be, but are not limited to: attributive constructions, numerals, noun phrase structure, and tense-aspect-modality systems.
The intern is presumed to give a public academic talk on their research.
