How to apply for Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad in Berlin

Are you interested in the interdisciplinary HPSA courses? Would you like to study in Berlin for four months and acquire intercultural skills at the same time? On this page you will find all relevant information for the application process.

Participation requirements

To participate in Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad, you must ...

  • be at least 18 years old.
  • be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at your home university.
  • can provide proof of sufficient English language skills (B2) for participation in English-language specialist courses.

Before applying, please contact your home university to find out about the recognition of credits earned abroad and the number of credits you need to earn during your stay at Humboldt-Universität.

Steps to the application

  1. Select up to five courses that interest you from the course list. One of these courses can be a German course. Participation in the accompanying intercultural training is an integral part of the program.
  2. Register online and complete the course selection form. After your registration and course selection, you will receive an e-mail with further information on the next steps.
  3. Please have the following documents ready to upload as scans (PDF):
    • Letter of motivation for your participation in Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Proof of English language proficiency (not necessary if English is your native language or the language of instruction at your home university). The following tests are recognized as proof of English language proficiency::
      • TOEFL IBT at least 90 - minimum 20 in each section
      • TOEFL paper based test - at least 580 - minimum 50 in each section
      • IELTS 6.5 but at least 6.0 in each section
      • TOEIC minimum 685 in all areas
      • CEFR at least C1
      • CET-4 (China) 550
      • CET-6 (China) 490
      • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - grade C
      • Cambridge Advanced Certificate - grade B
      • Duolingo English Test (DET) at least 105
    • Proof of identity (passport or identity card)
    • Valid student ID card
  4. As soon as you have been admitted, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with a request for payment and practical information about your stay in Berlin.
